Introduction

The Iberoamerican Chitin Society (SIAQ) is pleased to invite the scientific community as well as professionals, producers and users either working or interested in science and technology related to chitin, to participate in the V Iberoamerican Chitin Symposium (V SIAQ).

The event will take place in the Chilean city of Santiago de Chile, from the 7th to the 10th of March 2010. As in previous editions of this symposium, namely, La Habana'2000, Acapulco'2002, Cordoba'2004 and Natal’2007, V SIAQ aims to be an international forum of multidisciplinary character committed to encourage the active interaction and discussion of the cutting edge advances of the research in chitin science.

Santiago de Chile is a beautiful and welcoming city surrounded by the Andes, with an unparalleled natural beauty. Santiago is a perfect combination of modernity and quality of life, a fusion of architecture and the latest technology with pleasure sites, like sky centers and vineyards that produce world famous wines in the surroundings of the city. This makes Santiago the perfect place to combine a working visit with a beautiful culture and nature experience.

The scientific program will include the attendance of prominent international experts, besides other contributions in oral presentations and posters.
